Making a Case for the Classic White Button-Up

The all-season wardrobe staple reinvented with a few key styling tricks.

We’ve recently experienced a few weeks of record-breaking temps on the east coast, and one way that Olivia’s been able to beat the heat is through intelligent dressing. One piece from Olivia’s wardrobe, the pleat-back button-up tunic, has been on repeat, given its breezy silhouette and effortless polish. “It shocks a lot of people, but I actually rewear favorites often,” says Olivia. “Any piece can look brand new with the right styling.” Olivia first wore the piece in April and paired it with to-the-knee leather boots for a refreshing twist on borrowed from the boys dressing. However, for a recent errand run around the city, Olivia amped up the girlish vibes through smart pairings and accessories.

Letting the fluid top’s architecture take the lead, Olivia offset the fishtail hem by wearing a lace minidress in a contrasting hue. “I like the juxtaposition between the two,” says Olivia. “The top’s fluttering effect was balanced by the fitted underpinning.” Punctuating with distinction were embellished mules, cat-eye shades, and a ladylike scarf. “The great thing about a simple white shirt is that you can put your own stamp on the style, no matter the season.”
